Hock Lam St Popular Beef Noodle

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Hock Lam Beef Noodle rivalry is a thing and honestly, I can’t tell the difference especially after trying them at so many locations (Purvis St, Far East Square, Alexandra Media Centre, and now Old Airport Hawker Center), many of which are now closed.

One of the best features of Hock Lam Beef Noodles is their soup. A herbacious beefy soup (with taste of Dang Gui if I’m not wrong) that has a subtle but comforting acidity to it. At $6, you get all a bowl so full of beef that a steak that cost $$$ looks criminal by comparison. Another signature feature is the addition of preserved veg, ground peanuts, and cincalok. Add a spoonful of chili, mix it up and you have yourself a hearty lunch that will rival even the best Taiwan’s beef noodle or Vietnamese pho.
