Basilico

Rating: 4 out of 5.

$80 1-for-1 Citibank promotion meal. (Works out to $47 per person, similar to a typical restaurant week menu at other places.)

  1. Bread with olive dip + olive oil is amazing!
  2. Antipasti salad bowl is a dish that highlight the best that the buffet used to offer and it is the main reason why Basilico is great. My only complaint is that I can only have 1 portion. One slice of melon with one slice of prosciutto… Buffet, please come back…
  3. The main courses are so-so. Better than the fish I had last time. The steak is not wagyu, so it had a more meaty texture and strong beefy flavor. It is far from luxurious, but an acceptable dish. The risotto is not bad. It is full of scallop and prawns. Each grain was cooked to an al dente (a little undercooked in fact). The seafood broth was balanced with an acidic component too. The biggest miss is the weird caviar like topping, that taste more like fishy agar.
  4. The desserts were ok. Perhaps I am enjoying it a little more because I am not already bloated. The chocolate mousse cake, the hazelnut donut, the berry mouse and lemon meringue tarts are all pretty good. The tiramisu is light, but lacks the taste of coffee and alcohol. The pistachio macaron is the biggest disappointment.
  5. The cheese platter is AMAZING. The truffle honey with cheese is kinda Basilico’s signature. The four cheese chosen spanned the full spectrum of hard or soft, strong or mild, salty or neutral cheeses. The blue cheese in particular was so pungent, it shocked my taste bud awake. When paired together with the honey, they create a symphony of flavors that is only be matched by Remy’s imagination. If only there was some durian… The dried nuts and fruits are lovely too though I personally prefer something fresh and citrusy. 1. I should get a cup of coffee to end the meal.
