Wild Honey

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Wild Honey serves a mean selection of brunch that spans multiple cuisine. There are some hits and misses but overall, the dishes are really well executed even if each item is a little pricey ($25-$30).

The eggs benedict is good, save for the really dry pastrami that is a far cry from Kat’z Delicatessen’s pastrami (Once you have had pastrami in NYC, it is pretty much impossible to find anything that even comes close in Singapore…). Also, the bagel doesn’t have the proper chew. That aside, the poached egg was cooked to perfection. What’s a perfect poached egg you might ask? Well, the whites should be soft while the yolk is runny but not so runny that it weeps all over the plate. The poached egg here is exactly that – perfection. The hollandaise also has an amazing consistency that lends a good amount of acidity without being too rich. If they went the classic route that uses smoked salmon and English muffin, I think the result would be even better.

The french toast Croque Madame is probably the highlight of the day. Light airy french toast that is eggy and fragrant. Generous spread of good quality mustard to balance the richness of the egg, cheese, ham and hollandaise. A picture-perfect tomato-on-vine that could have spent a bit of time on the grill but otherwise, a refreshing bite to round the dish.

Lastly, the shakshukit was spectacular. Instead of serving just the meat (which would have been fine), they added toppings like yogurt, olive tapenade, cured lemon, harissa, watercress pesto, pistachio and pine nuts. If you resist the temptation to mix everything together but instead, sample each topping bit by bit, you get to experience 5-10 different flavors all in a single dish. The tabouleh is also done really well, if only they gave me more than a spoonful worth of salad.

Short of some minor misses, the fundamentals are clearly strong. I would say this is one of the best brunches I have had in sg yet. And there’s more dishes I have yet to try…. omg….
