Ryo Sushi

It has been a long while since I have had a sushi-themed omakase and Ryo Sushi did not disappoint! At $100 per person, you get a good selection of staples. Nothing exotic, just reliable cuts like fatty tuna, striped jack, amber jack, sea bream, sea bass, kin medai, scallops, prawn and uni. Missing staples include clam, eel, tamago, vinegared mackerel etc.

The prawn, the hotate and amberjack were definitely the highlights. Special mention to the chutoro with soy sauce foam. This is the one time I thought that the use of flavored foam is appropriate as a complement to the fatty tuna.

Frankly, the value proposition of a well executed sub-$100 sushi omakase far exceeds that of any $300++ omakase. It takes a true connoisseur to taste the subtle differences and frankly, my palate has not reached that level of sophistication. For a person of ‘simple taste’ like me, I doubt I can ever justify spending that amount knowing that Ryo Sushi exists 🙂

Note to self, ask about the source of fish next time.
