Tomi Sushi

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I have mixed feelings about Tomi Sushi. On the one hand, they have a good selection of fish that you would expect from an entry level omakase. Price seems reasonable as well when there is an offer like $20 for a tuna sushi set. The quality of the fish is pretty good in general, though the kohada and kinmedai weren’t exceptional compared to what I had for Omakase. On the other hand, the shari is not impressive and reminds me of Don Don Donki. It has the cold, hard and compact quality that shouts supermarket quality. I think it is a great example of why good shari is key to good sushi. Also, if you opt for ala carte nigiri, the price can get real ex real fast.

I would place Tomi sushi above Don Don Donki and cheap sushi chain, slightly above ichiban and itacho, but quite a bit below omakase like miraku.

Tomi’s main appeal is their wide selection of dishes. You can eat everything from sushi, sashimi, oden, tempura and dons, all in one restaurant. The oden is also really good as a warm dish next to the cold sushi.

Btw, the chutoro is… amazing. The best piece of sushi I had that meal, followed by the hotate.
